What is muscular dystrophy

Muscular dystrophy is a disease of skeletal muscle caused by genetic factors.

It is characterized by progressive muscle degeneration affecting muscle strength and function. There are many types of muscular dystrophy, including pseudohypertrophic muscular dystrophy, myotonic muscular dystrophy, facial-scapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, etc. The clinical manifestations and prognosis of each type may vary.

The treatment of muscular dystrophy is mainly symptomatic and supportive treatment. Patients may be prescribed drugs such as vitamin E, inosine, and immunosuppressants such as prednisone and allopurinol to improve muscle function and relieve symptoms. For serious complications such as joint contracture and spinal deformity, surgery may be considered to improve quality of life.
