Surgical approach location for distal femoral fractures

The surgical approach for distal femoral fractures is at the distal thigh, slightly lateral to the knee joint level. A longitudinal incision is made in the middle of the thigh, incising the skin, superficial fascia, deep fascia, iliotibial tract, and blunt separation of the lateral femoris muscle. This surgical approach does not damage important nerves and blood vessels. Therefore, it is relatively safe and is called the lateral femoral surgical approach. The characteristic of this surgical approach is that the depth from the skin to the fracture end is relatively shallow, and it is one of the most easily exposed parts in femoral surgery.
