What is the meniscus damage level?

Guiding you to a healthier path.
First of all, the meniscus plays a role in maintaining joint stability, buffering joint pressure, repairing articular cartilage, etc. in the knee joint. once the meniscus is damaged, further MRI examination is required. After MRI examination, the meniscus damage is graded. Generally divided into three levels: Level 1 is when MRI examination shows a high-signal image inside the meniscus. Level 2 is when MRI examination shows a high-signal image inside the meniscus, which usually leads to the side of the joint capsule. Grade III meniscal injury is characterized by high signal intensity in the meniscus leading to the joint and capsule side, showing a full tear of the meniscus. According to different grades, the treatment options are also different. Generally, conservative treatment is preferred for grade I and grade II injuries, reducing knee rotation, reducing stair climbing, and exercising quadriceps muscle strength as much as possible to promote meniscal repair. For Grade III injuries, surgery is required, and arthroscopic surgery is performed to repair or suture the meniscus.
