The cerebellum, in the posterior occipital part of the brain, plays a balancing role and enables ataxia to appear normal. After cerebellum infarction, it may show signs of illness, sudden abnormal rhythm or tone changes in speech, called dysarthria, such as poetic speech or slurred speech, accompanied by nystagmus. It may also show ataxia, indicating that the present limb, such as the patient grasps objects or excessively grasps objects that cannot be touched. The patient walks with a drunken gait, also known as a staggered gait, and the weight of the footsteps is not uniform. The cause of cerebellar infarction is normal and related to the size and location of the lesion. The main manifestation is ataxia.
