What is esophageal manometry?

Healing with compassion, caring with purpose.
Esophageal manometry is a test used to assess esophageal function and diagnose esophageal diseases.
Esophageal manometry is usually performed using a flexible manometry catheter that enters the esophagus through the nose. Because of the multiple sensors placed on the catheter, pressure changes in different parts of the esophagus can be recorded, revealing esophageal motility, including abnormal motility or motor delay. In addition, by measuring pressure changes in the sphincter, contraction and relaxation function can be evaluated.
Esophageal manometry is a safe and effective test. In addition, it can be used in conjunction with medical examinations such as ultrasound and endoscopy to help determine the cause.
