Esophageal diverticulum may be caused by esophageal movement disorder, esophageal pressure increase, esophagitis and other factors.

What is esophageal diverticulum?

1. Esophageal movement disorder

Normal peristaltic movement of esophagus is completed by the coordinated contraction and relaxation of smooth muscle layer of esophageal wall. If the coordination of esophageal wall muscles is affected, it may lead to prolonged stay time of food in esophagus and gradually form diverticulum.

2. Excessive increase of esophageal pressure

and rapid eating lead to increased pressure in esophagus, thus gradually protruding the weak point of esophageal wall and forming diverticulum.

What is esophageal diverticulum?

3. Esophagitis

The middle esophageal mucosa has long-term inflammation and adhesion, so that the whole layer of esophagus is pulled and can cause esophageal diverticulum.
