Types of glaucoma

Glaucoma can be divided into four main types, including primary glaucoma, secondary glaucoma, mixed glaucoma and developmental glaucoma (or called congenital glaucoma). 1, primary glaucoma is further divided into open angle glaucoma and angle closure glaucoma. Open angle glaucoma according to different causes, can also be divided into primary open angle glaucoma and normal intraocular pressure glaucoma. Angle closure glaucoma is divided into acute angle closure glaucoma and chronic angle closure glaucoma according to the speed of disease development. 2. Secondary glaucoma is caused by eye changes caused by other eye diseases or systemic diseases, affecting aqueous humor discharge, leading to elevated intraocular pressure, such as ocular inflammation, trauma, tumors, etc. All can cause secondary glaucoma. It mainly includes pigment-induced glaucoma, exfoliation syndrome glaucoma, glucocorticoid glaucoma, phacogenic glaucoma, traumatic glaucoma, and neovascular glaucoma. 3. Mixed glaucoma refers to the presence of two or more primary glaucoma, secondary glaucoma or primary and secondary glaucoma at the same time, including open-angle glaucoma complicated with angle-closure glaucoma, and angle-closure glaucoma complicated with trabecular damage. 4. Developmental glaucoma (or congenital glaucoma) is associated with genetic factors, including infantile glaucoma, juvenile glaucoma and congenital glaucoma combined with other congenital abnormalities. This type of glaucoma develops at birth or shortly after birth.
