CA125 is a tumor marker, mainly used for auxiliary diagnosis and monitoring of ovarian cancer and other diseases. CA125 levels are elevated in most ovarian cancer patients, especially epithelial ovarian cancer. However, it is not a specific marker of ovarian cancer. Other benign diseases such as pelvic inflammatory disease and endometriosis may also cause mild elevation. Continuous monitoring of CA125 levels during treatment of ovarian cancer is helpful in assessing the effectiveness of treatment. If treatment is effective, CA125 usually decreases gradually; conversely, if CA125 continues to increase or does not decrease, it may indicate disease progression or recurrence. CA125 alone is not accurate enough to diagnose ovarian cancer. It often needs to be combined with imaging examinations such as ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and gynecological examination. In addition to ovarian cancer, CA 125 may also be elevated in some other malignant tumors such as fallopian tube cancer, endometrial cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc., but the diagnostic value is relatively low. Some non-neoplastic diseases can cause false positive CA 125, while some ovarian cancer patients may not be elevated CA 125, that is, false negative cases, so the interpretation of results should be cautious. CA125 is an important tumor marker, but in clinical application, comprehensive analysis and judgment should be combined with the specific conditions of patients, and diagnosis or evaluation should not be made only by its single result.
