Is cervical iodine test positive normal?

A positive iodine test is usually normal.

Normal cervical tissue cells are rich in glycogen, and iodine solution will appear brown or black after smearing. This indicates that cervical epithelial cells are normal mature squamous epithelium.

However, a positive iodine test does not completely rule out all cervical lesions. Some benign lesions such as cervical inflammation may also be positive in iodine test. In

addition, to comprehensively and accurately evaluate cervical condition, iodine test alone cannot be relied on. Comprehensive judgment should be combined with medical history, clinical manifestations, gynecological examination, cervical cytology, HPV test, and colposcopy and tissue biopsy when necessary.
