Empowering you to live your best life.
Duodenal stasis is caused by various adverse factors that prevent the normal passage of food, fluids, or other substances through the duodenum.
Duodenal stasis can be congenital, i.e., the patient is born with a developmental abnormality or structural defect of the intestine, such as duodenal stenosis or atresia. Acquired duodenal stasis can also be caused by other factors, such as tumors, inflammation, ulcers, intussusception, deformed or twisted intestines. Patients may experience abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting due to incomplete emptying of intestinal contents.
Diagnosis of duodenal stasis usually requires medical imaging to determine the abnormality of the intestine. Treatment depends on the cause and extent of the stasis and may include medication, surgical removal of the narrowed portion, or release of the obstruction.
