Difference between alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase

Glutamate aminotransferase exists in various cells, among which the content in liver cells is the highest. In the acute stage of viral hepatitis or drug-toxic liver cell necrosis, a large amount of alanine aminotransferase will enter the blood, which is an important marker for diagnosis of viral hepatitis. Aspartate aminotransferase mainly exists in myocardium, liver, skeletal muscle and other tissues. The concentration of aspartate aminotransferase in serum is low, which can be used for auxiliary examination of myocardial infarction, myocarditis and other diseases. If aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase is greater than 1, it indicates that there is extensive damage to liver parenchyma.
