What does intestinal spasm mean?

Empowering you to live your best life.
Intestinal spasm is a paroxysmal abdominal pain caused by strong contraction of intestinal smooth muscle. It is one of the most common cases of acute abdominal pain in children.
Clinically, a variety of factors can lead to intestinal spasm, such as improper diet, eating too much raw cold, spicy food, or abdominal cold and other external stimuli; excessive intestinal gas production, such as swallowing too much gas; increased intestinal motility; and some intestinal diseases. Its main manifestations are sudden onset of paroxysmal abdominal pain, pain sites are mostly around the umbilicus, pain severity varies, can be repeated attacks. During the attack, children often cry restlessly, pale, cold hands and feet, etc., and there may be no abnormal performance during the interval.
For the treatment of intestinal spasms, the first thing to do is to remove the inducing factors, such as paying attention to diet and keeping the abdomen warm. Abdominal hot compress and massage can be performed to relieve pain when abdominal pain attacks occur. If the pain is severe, antispasmodic and analgesic drugs, such as atropine and anisodamine, can be used under the guidance of a doctor. At the same time, active treatment should be given to possible intestinal diseases.
