Diabetes: Why does diabetes hurt?

Empowering you to live healthier.
Diabetic patients experience leg soreness mainly due to the following reasons, such as neuropathy, vascular disease, electrolyte imbalance, etc.
1. Neuropathy
Continuous hyperglycemia can damage nerves, causing paresthesia and pain, including the calf. When the nerves are damaged, their conduction function is impaired, and the muscles and other tissues of the calf cannot receive normal nerve innervation and nutrition, which makes them prone to soreness.
2. Vascular disease
Diabetes can affect the normal function of blood vessels, especially the blood vessels of the lower limbs, which are prone to stenosis, blockage, etc. This can lead to insufficient blood supply to the calf, a lack of sufficient oxygen and nutrients in the muscles, resulting in soreness, and even intermittent claudication and other symptoms in severe cases.
3. Electrolyte imbalance, for
example, abnormalities in electrolytes such as calcium and potassium, may affect the normal contraction and relaxation functions of the muscles, resulting in soreness in the calf muscles.
