The cold sensation of esophagus is mostly caused by diet temperature, reflux esophagitis, chronic esophagitis and other reasons.
1. Diet temperature
Eating too cold food or drink, such as iced drinks or ice cream, may cause a cold sensation due to direct contact of low temperature food with the mucous membrane of the esophagus, resulting in a decrease in mucosal temperature.
2. Reflux esophagitis
When acid and bile reflux into the esophagus, patients will feel a heartburn or alternating cold and hot sensation.
3. Chronic esophagitis
Chronic inflammation of the esophagus may become more sensitive, and in some cases, unusual cold sensation may occur, especially when swallowing.
