What causes proctitis?

Children with proctitis may be caused by infection, inflammatory bowel disease, foreign body damage and other reasons.

1. Infection with

Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, Chlamydia and other pathogens can directly invade and damage the rectal mucosa, and cause inflammation, thus causing proctitis.

2. Inflammatory bowel disease

When the child itself has ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases, inflammation can spread to the rectal site and cause proctitis.

3. Foreign body damage

When there are undigested bone pieces or other sharp foreign bodies in the rectum, it can cause rectal mucosa damage, thus causing proctitis.
