What is rheumatic heart disease? Is it serious?

Healing hearts, one patient at a time.
Rheumatic heart disease is A disease caused by inflammation of the heart due to
rheumatic fever, and rheumatic fever is a systemic inflammation caused by infection with group A hemolytic streptococci. For patients, the disease is difficult to cure and belongs to chronic progressive disease. Patients often cause heart damage due to the disease, even cardiac decompensation, causing acute pulmonary edema, cerebral embolism, heart failure and other complications. Therefore, the disease is usually severe and patients should be actively treated throughout their lives to delay the progression of the disease and relieve symptoms. However, the severity of the disease depends mainly on the degree of cardiac involvement and the severity of complications, so there are significant individual differences.
