Where is mitral auscultation?

Building a healthier future, together.
Mitral auscultation is usually performed at the apex of the heart.
Mitral auscultation is performed during auscultation of the heart to assess mitral valve function. During mitral auscultation, the doctor usually places the diaphragm portion of the stethoscope at the apex of the patient's heart, i.e., the fifth rib on the left side of the heart, about 5 cm from the left edge of the sternum. This position corresponds to the tip of the heart, and the mitral valve closing and opening sounds can be heard. When auscultation of the mitral valve is performed in the apical region, the physician will pay attention to the intensity, sound quality, time interval, and abnormal sound occurrence of heart sounds to evaluate whether there is abnormal mitral valve function, such as insufficiency or stenosis.
