Why is the left atrium enlarged?

Building bridges to better health.
Left atrial enlargement may be caused by congenital heart disease, ischemic cardiomyopathy, hypertensive heart disease, etc.
1. Congenital heart disease
The occurrence of congenital heart disease may be related to genetic, physical factors, chemical factors, etc. The patient's congenital structural development is abnormal, and the above symptoms may also occur.
2. Ischemic cardiomyopathy
Coronary atherosclerosis leads to stenosis or occlusion of the arterial lumen, causing this disease. Patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy may cause left atrial enlargement due to impaired myocardial function, leading to congestive heart failure.
3. Hypertensive heart disease
Long-term poor control of blood pressure leads to increased afterload of the heart, affecting diastolic function of the left ventricle, leading to increased diastolic pressure of the left ventricle, and may cause left ventricular enlargement.
