The symptoms of myocarditis in children are not limited to three types, and may include fever, precordial pain, and edema.
Myocarditis in children may be caused by viral infection. Respiratory tract infection and intestinal infection may occur before typical symptoms appear. Pathogens invade the body and can cause fever, usually low or moderate fever. As the virus damages the myocardium, it increases the burden on the heart and then cardiac symptoms, such as precordial pain. Severe myocarditis in children causes congestive heart failure, leading to edema in the lower limbs, which may spread upward to the whole body.
