How to recognize pulmonary atresia

Pulmonary atresia is a congenital heart disease that occurs when the pulmonary artery is blocked from the right ventricle.

Pulmonary atresia is caused by genetic and environmental factors. Common manifestations include hypoxia, dyspnea, cyanosis, etc. If left untreated, complications such as heart failure and metabolic acidosis may occur. Echocardiography, magnetic resonance angiography, cardiac catheterization, and X-ray examinations can help to confirm pulmonary atresia.

Patients can usually be treated by systemic pulmonary artery shunt, right ventriculopulmonary artery connection, and pulmonary valve incision, which can help control the progression of the disease.
