Muscle atrophy is a degeneration and atrophy of muscle tissue, specifically refers to striated muscle dystrophy, muscle fiber thinning or even disappearance caused by muscle volume reduction.
Muscular atrophy may be myogenic muscular atrophy caused by muscular dystrophy, dystrophic myotonia, periodic paralysis and polymyositis, or it may be abnormal spinal cord and lower motor neurons caused by vertebral bone hyperplasia, intervertebral disc disease, spinal nerve tumor, arachnoiditis and neuritis, resulting in neurogenic muscular atrophy. In addition, there are disuse muscular atrophy, cachexia muscular atrophy, sympathetic muscular dystrophy, etc. The
patient has difficulty standing up and squatting, unable to straighten when the calf muscles are atrophied, unable to write and take things when the arm muscles are atrophied, chewing and swallowing difficulties when the head and face muscles are atrophied, and weakness in the head, shoulder and pelvic muscles. Clinically, electromyography, muscle biopsy, CT, MRI, etc. are usually needed to help judge the changes in the condition.
