Hyperthyroidism iodine deficiency or iodine excess

Empowering lives through health.
Hyperthyroidism is caused by too much iodine.
Excessive iodine intake is one of the common causes of hyperthyroidism. When the body ingests too much iodine, the thyroid over-absorbs and uses this iodine to synthesize thyroid hormones, which may lead to excessive thyroid hormone secretion. For example, long-term consumption of high-iodine foods, such as kelp, seaweed, etc., or long-term use of iodine-rich drugs, etc., may increase the risk of hyperthyroidism. Excessive iodine will increase the burden on the thyroid gland. The thyroid needs to process and regulate iodine intake. If the amount of iodine exceeds its normal processing capacity, it may disturb the normal function of the thyroid gland, promote its overactivity, and then cause hyperthyroidism.
