Is the child dry cough without sputum caused by lung heat or lung cold

Healing hearts, one patient at a time.
A child's dry cough without phlegm is neither lung heat nor lung cold.
Lung heat is usually caused by wind-heat evil invading the lungs or lung meridians. Due to lung heat, it usually stimulates the secretion of mucous membranes in the respiratory tract, causing cough and accompanied by yellow viscous phlegm. Lung cold is usually caused by insufficient yang qi in the lungs or exogenous cold evil. Due to cold-dampness evil invading the lung meridians, it causes cold coagulation of lung meridians, poor qi flow, and endogenous phlegm dampness, causing cough and accompanied by cold phlegm. Therefore, lung heat and lung cold usually cause expectoration. If the child has dry cough without sputum symptoms, consider more diseases related to pharyngitis, cough variant asthma, etc.
