Can emphysema cause COPD?

Emphysema is one of the main causes of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Emphysema is a pathological condition in which the airway elasticity at the distal end of the terminal bronchioles decreases, hyperinflation, and lung volume increases or is accompanied by destruction of the airway wall. Emphysema can be classified into the following types according to its causes: senile emphysema, compensatory emphysema, interstitial emphysema, focal emphysema, para-septal emphysema, and obstructive emphysema. COPD is

also known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is a chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema characterized by airflow obstruction, which can further develop into a common chronic disease of pulmonary heart disease and respiratory failure. It is related to abnormal inflammatory reactions of harmful gases and harmful particles. The disability rate and mortality rate are very high, and the incidence rate is as high as 9% to 10% in the world over 40 years old.

Emphysema develops to a certain extent, causing COPD. Therefore, emphysema is one of the main causes of COPD.
