What does urine granulocyte esterase positivity mean

If there is a positive granulocyte esterase in urine, it is considered that there may be urinary tract infection. At the same time, it is necessary to combine whether the patient has symptoms of urinary tract infection, and the index results of white blood cell count and bacterial count in urine routine examination to further judge. When there is urinary tract infection, it may show an increase in white blood cell count in urine, and granulocyte esterase may be positive at the same time. Granulocyte esterase only exists in white blood cells, and exists in granulocytes in white blood cells. The infection stage may show an elevated neutrophil count, and at this time may also show a positive result of granulocyte esterase in urine. As an auxiliary diagnostic method, it indicates the presence of urinary tract infection. However, other relevant items should be examined to assess the number of white blood cells, bacteria, etc. If necessary, urine culture should be carried out to achieve the final diagnosis. It is not possible to use a simple granulocyte esterase positive as the sole basis for the diagnosis of urinary tract infection.
