How is bile reflux caused?

Restoring health, one step at a time.
Bile reflux may occur due to abnormal gallbladder function, esophageal sphincter relaxation, phrenic hiatus hernia, etc. The explanations are as follows:
1. Abnormal gallbladder function The
gallbladder is an organ that stores bile. If the gallbladder contraction function is abnormal, bile discharge may be affected, resulting in bile reflux.
2. Esophageal sphincter relaxation The
muscle ring between the esophagus and the stomach is called the lower esophageal sphincter. The main function is to prevent gastric contents and bile from flowing back into the esophagus. If the sphincter is excessively relaxed, bile may flow back into the esophagus.
3. Phrenic
hiatus is the opening of the esophagus through the diaphragm, which can move part of the stomach upward. If phrenic hiatus hernia exists, changes in the position of the stomach may lead to bile reflux.
