What causes superior mesenteric artery compression syndrome?

Empowering you to live your best life.
Superior mesenteric artery compression syndrome may be caused by congenital factors, body shape and tumor factors.
1. Congenital factors
During embryonic development, structural abnormalities of superior mesenteric artery may cause duodenal compression, and then form superior mesenteric artery compression syndrome.
2. Slender
patients may lose weight rapidly due to the disappearance of fat pad around superior mesenteric artery, resulting in the angle formed by superior mesenteric artery and abdominal aorta is too small, causing compression of duodenum and producing superior mesenteric artery compression syndrome.
3. Tumor factors Patients
with tumors in duodenal adjacent organs may also cause the above syndrome due to the compression of tumor on duodenum and the formation of local chronic obstruction.
