How do I diagnose premature ovarian failure?

Premature ovarian failure can be detected in a number of ways, including hormone levels, ultrasound, anti-Mullerian hormone testing, chromosome testing, and other examinations.1. Hormone level testing Ovarian function is assessed by measuring the levels of hormones such as follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and estradiol in the blood. When FSH levels are elevated, especially on two consecutive tests FSH> 40 IU/L, accompanied by decreased estrogen levels, is highly indicative of premature ovarian failure. This is because when ovarian function declines, it does not secrete enough estrogen to inhibit FSH secretion, resulting in increased FSH. 2. Ultrasound can observe ovarian size, morphology and follicle number. In women with premature ovarian failure, ovarian volume may decrease, and the number of follicles may be significantly reduced or even absent. Ultrasound is helpful to visually understand the structure of the ovary, but it may not be sensitive enough for the diagnosis of early ovarian failure. 3. Anti-Mullerian Hormone Detection Anti-Mullerian Hormone is mainly secreted by granulosa cells of the ovary, and its level can reflect ovarian reserve function. Anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) levels are usually significantly lower in patients with POF, and AMH detection has good specificity and stability for evaluating ovarian reserve function, which can be used as one of the indicators for early screening of POF. 4. Chromosome examination For some young patients with premature ovarian failure of unknown etiology, chromosome examination may be needed to rule out premature ovarian failure caused by chromosomal abnormalities. Common chromosomal abnormalities include Turner syndrome. 5. Other examinations may also include autoantibody testing to rule out premature ovarian failure caused by autoimmune diseases. The diagnosis of premature ovarian failure requires a combination of multiple test results and the patient's symptoms and medical history.
