Gouty Arthritis Summary

Gouty arthritis is a clinical syndrome characterized by purine metabolism disorder and elevated serum uric acid levels. The main causes of gouty arthritis include a history of high purine diet and alcohol consumption. Acute attacks normally occur at night after drinking alcohol. There is obvious swelling and pain in the affected joints during attacks. Local soft tissue redness, tenderness, and severe limitation of activity. The course of acute attacks generally lasts about one week.
