Blistering on the lips is mostly considered to be caused by herpes simplex virus infection. Herpes simplex virus is an infectious disease. It can be transmitted directly through droplets, saliva and herpes fluid, or indirectly through contaminated clothing and tableware. Acyclovir ointment can be used externally. Severe cases can be treated with oral antiviral drugs.
