Viral esophagitis may cause fever.

Viral esophagitis is inflammation of the esophageal mucosa caused by virus infection. Common viruses include herpes virus and cytomegalovirus. After infection, the virus activates the immune system. The immune system releases cytokines and mediators such as interleukin and interferon in response to virus invasion. These substances can act on the thermoregulatory center, causing the temperature set point to rise, resulting in fever symptoms. At the same time, some patients will be accompanied by sore throat, swallowing difficulties and other symptoms.
